Choosing your first instrument
Hello aspiring musician! So you yearn for to know how to choose an instrument. I will answer this question based on personal ordeal.
Over the summer I will begin to play the piano but for the sake of this article I will reference to my own experience with the guitar. These steps employ to any instrument.
I’ve always had a passion for music. As a kid I wanted a drum set badly but fiscal issues held me back (not a good excuse). My passion for music never left me and years later, I unqualified that I wanted to buy a guitar. It took me 2 years to finally purchase one because I kept questioning whether I would do to it or not. Well, I was having a pretty easy semester in school so I decided I was ready to buy one, but I had no aim on which to choose!
I did my research over google, searching for ‘recommended beginner guitars,’ ‘choosing a guitar’ and other keywords along that line. Some websites were exceptionally helpful with actual examples of specific guitars to purchase. I took the names of those guitars and logged onto guitarcenter.com and musciansfriend.com, typed those guitars in and checked reviews/testimonials. I also checked reliable forums like ultimate-guitar.com. Yes, it may sound like a lot of research but it’s categorically worth it.
With that in mind I decided to head down to my local music shop (guitar center). I went tidy to the acoustic section, picked up guitars, held them, strummed a bit (I had no idea what I was doing). I was in there for almost 2 hours. I talked to an staff member there, told him I was brand new and asked him which guitar he recommends for beginners. He gave me his opinion and literally the same guitar I found online was one of the ones he recommended. I asked him to play me a tune on that guitar and then asked him to decry a tune on a more expensive guitar so I could hear the difference in sound. The one I was looking to buy was far cheaper ($200) than the more precious one ($600) yet the sound was great in comparison (of course, not as good because you get what you pay for).
